Workers Insurance Association: Web design & development

The industry body for workers’ compensation insurers. One site for members and the public: insurer results as charts, free tools, a plain-language glossary and the policy work.

The Workers Insurance Association homepage, headed Together, advancing workers’ compensation, beside a dark card with a lime and violet pattern.

What it solved

The Workers Insurance Association represents workers’ compensation insurers. It speaks for the industry on policy, and it publishes data, tools and guides that anyone can use.

Its visitors come for very different things. A member wants the policy work. An employer wants to compare insurers. An injured worker wants a claim form, or the meaning of a term. The site had to send each of them to the right place quickly.

The job, in four parts:

  • Sort the site by what a visitor came to do.
  • Turn the public return-to-work data into charts people can read.
  • Explain the scheme’s terms in plain language, with sources.
  • Keep reports, hearings and tools easy to find.

What we built

Our team designed and built the site. It’s one place for members and the public, with the data and the tools up front.

  • A line chart of return-to-work rates over time for three groups of insurers, under three headline percentages.

    Return-to-work data as charts

Public data on how many injured workers are back at work after 13 weeks, drawn as a trend line for each group of insurers. The reporting period can be changed.

  • The insurer results table, ranked by return-to-work rate, beside an empty panel where a comparison chart appears.

    Insurer results, ranked

Insurers are listed from the highest result to the lowest. Picking one shows its own trend next to the average.

  • The glossary page, headed Find the language you need, with a search box and a row of letters.

    A plain-language glossary

The terms used in claims and benefits, each with a short definition and a link to its official source. It can be searched, or filtered by topic.

  • The tools page, headed Less friction. Better-informed next steps, with a card for the digital injury claim form.

    Free tools

One page leads to the digital injury claim form and to a public education campaign, with a line on who each is for.

How it is built

The charts and the glossary respond to what a visitor picks, so the site is built in React. Each page is prepared on the server first, which keeps it fast and easy for search engines to read.
