Magento to Shopify migration
Your client’s Magento store moved to Shopify, counted against the source.
A fixed price, quoted after a 20-minute call, with the scope and turnaround in writing within 2 business days. Shopify store builds start at $2,000.See hours by region
A Magento to Shopify migration service for agencies, delivered under your name. The data move is quoted in writing after a call, at a fixed price. We import the products, customers and order history, then compare the totals with Magento’s. Every old URL gets a 301, the old store keeps selling until the switch, and you sign the checklist before the domain moves.
- Magento sells until the switch
- Counts checked against Magento
- Every extension replaced or retired
- Your sign-off before the domain moves
Magento and Shopify don’t store a shop the same way.
No part of a Magento to Shopify migration is a straight copy. The product model, the URLs and the customer logins all differ, and each difference is somewhere a launch can go wrong.
- A configurable product with a fourth option
- A bundle product with no bundles app behind it
- Wholesale customers who lost their group prices
- A store view whose URLs were never mapped
All four can be caught before the build starts, which is why the first thing you get is a scope: what moves, what gets rebuilt, and which app replaces which extension (with each app’s monthly cost).
What moves from Magento to Shopify, and how.
Each kind of data has its own route into Shopify and its own limit. The scope names the route we chose for each.
Simple and configurable products
Exported from the Magento admin as CSV, reshaped to Shopify’s product format and imported. A configurable product becomes one product with variants. Simple products come across as they are.
Shopify allows three options and 2,048 variants per product. We split or restructure a product with a fourth attribute, and show you how before the import.
Bundle, grouped and downloadable products
Magento also sells bundles a customer builds from options, grouped products presented as a set, and virtual or downloadable items. We count each type in the audit.
Shopify needs a bundles app before a store can sell bundles. The scope names the app, and says how the other types are rebuilt.
Categories
Rebuilt as Shopify collections, with the nesting recreated in the navigation menus.
Shopify groups collections in drop-down menus, and most themes show two levels below the top item. A deeper category tree is reorganised to fit, and you approve the new structure.
Customers
Exported as CSV with their addresses and marketing consent, and imported after the products.
Passwords can’t be imported. On Shopify’s current customer accounts customers sign in with a one-time code sent to their email address.
Order history
Imported through a migration app or Shopify’s order API, after products and customers. Staff order notifications are switched off first.
Shopify’s admin has no CSV import for past orders, and Magento’s data export doesn’t include them. How many years to bring is your client’s call.
Reviews
Imported through the review app’s own importer.
On Shopify, reviews live in an app, which your client pays for monthly.
Gift cards and store credit
Imported just before launch, through a migration app or Shopify’s gift card API.
Balances are taken last, because customers keep spending them until the switch.
CMS pages and blog posts
Moved into Shopify pages and a Shopify blog, then checked by hand.
Page Builder layouts don’t convert, so the words and images go into sections of the new theme.
Extensions
Each one is listed with what it does, then replaced by a Shopify feature, theme code or an app.
No Magento extension runs on Shopify. The quote lists every replacement and what it costs a month.
Store views
Magento uses store views mainly for languages, each with its own base URL. On Shopify the same store sells to several countries through Markets, with its own currencies, languages and domains.
Every store view has its own set of URLs, so each one is crawled and mapped separately.
Customer groups
A Magento customer group decides which discounts a customer gets and which tax class applies. The defaults are General, Not Logged In and Wholesale. We map each group to customer tags and discounts, or to companies in Shopify’s B2B tools.
B2B features come only with Shopify plans that support them. Which plan your client needs is settled on the call, before any price is given.
As of October 2026, Shopify’s free Store Migration app doesn’t list Magento as a source. A Magento store moves through CSV exports, a migration app such as Matrixify, or Shopify’s API. Shopify Help Center: migrating to Shopify
Every Magento URL changes. Each one gets a 301.
Shopify decides how every URL starts, so no Magento address survives the move as it is. We build the redirect map from a crawl of the old store and import it before launch.
Example redirect map for a Magento store.
How Magento URLs map to Shopify
| Old URL | New URL |
|---|---|
| /women/jackets.html | /collections/womens-jackets |
| /women/jackets/harbour-parka.html | /products/harbour-parka |
| /catalog/product/view/id/1842 | /products/field-boot |
| /shipping-returns | /pages/shipping-returns |
| /blog/how-to-wax-a-jacket | /blogs/journal/how-to-wax-a-jacket |
What Shopify’s redirects can and can’t do
- Fixed prefixes
- Products sit under /products/, collections under /collections/, pages under /pages/ and blog posts under /blogs/. We choose the handle that follows; the prefix itself can’t be changed.
- One product, one URL
- Magento can be set to include the category path in product URLs, which gives one product more than one address. On Shopify it has one address under /products/, so several old URLs can point at the same new one.
- Filter and search URLs
- Shopify says a redirect from a URL with a query string might not work as expected. We list the layered-navigation and search URLs that bring in traffic and agree with you what happens to each.
- Reserved paths
- Shopify won’t take a redirect from a path that starts with /apps, /cart, /orders, /services or /shop. Any old URL under one of those is flagged in the map.
- How many
- A store can hold 100,000 redirects, or 20 million on Shopify Plus, imported by CSV. We check a large catalogue against that limit before the build.
Magento to Shopify migration checklist, in the order we work.
Nine steps, start to finish. Use the list to check our scope, or anybody else’s.
01Audit the Magento store
We count the products by type, the attributes used as options, the customer groups, store views, orders and CMS pages. Every extension is listed with what it does. A crawl records every URL, title and description.
A written scope: what moves, what is rebuilt, which app replaces which extension and what each costs a month, with a fixed price.
02Agree the data mapping
Attributes become options or metafields. Categories become collections and menus. Customer groups become tags or catalogues. Products with more than three options are listed one by one.
The mapping sheet, for you to approve before anything is imported.
03Build the Shopify store
A development store in your Shopify Partner account, with the theme built or customised and the apps installed and set up.
A preview link, and a written update every week.
04Import products, customers, then orders
In the order Shopify recommends. After each import we compare the count in Shopify with the count in Magento, then open a sample of records and read them.
The counts on the migration sheet, old against new.
05Build the redirect map
Every crawled URL gets a row and a new address. We import the finished map into Shopify as a CSV before launch.
The redirect map as a spreadsheet, for you to agree.
06Set up payments, shipping and tax
We set them up on your client’s own Shopify account, then place test orders with each payment method.
The test order results, method by method.
07Run the final import
The old store keeps selling until the switch. Just before it, we bring across the orders and customers created since the first import. Gift card balances go in last.
Updated counts on the sheet.
08Sign off and launch
You sign the launch checklist. We disconnect the domain from the old host and point it at Shopify in your client’s quiet hours, and the store is transferred to your client.
The signed checklist. The domain doesn’t move without it.
09Check after launch
We crawl the live store on day 1, 7 and 30 and, with access, watch Search Console for 30 days. Customers get an email explaining how to sign in on the new store.
A post-launch report in your branding. Anything we built that breaks in the first 30 days is fixed free.
Google says to expect rankings to fluctuate for a while after a site move, and to keep redirects in place for at least a year. We don’t promise rankings or traffic. Google Search Central: site moves with URL changes
What decides the price of a Magento move.
There’s no list price for a store migration, because these five things vary from one Magento store to the next. We ask about each of them on the call.
White label Shopify development- The catalogue
- How many products there are, and how many have more than three options or are grouped or bundled. Those need restructuring before they fit Shopify.
- Order history
- How many years of orders your client wants customers to see in their accounts.
- Extensions
- How many there are, and whether a Shopify feature or an app can do each one’s job.
- Integrations
- An ERP, a 3PL or an accounting system connected to Magento has to be connected to Shopify. A connection written against an API is quoted on its own.
- Store views and customer groups
- Several store views, or customer groups with their own prices, take more set-up than one storefront with one price list.

It depends on the store, so there’s no published number of days: the catalogue, the extensions and how much order history moves decide it. After a 20-minute call you get a written scope, a fixed price and a turnaround within 2 business days. The date goes in your signed order, and if we miss it for a reason on our side, the whole project fee comes back.
Not as of October 2026. Shopify’s free Store Migration app lists WooCommerce, Wix, Squarespace and several marketplaces as sources, and Magento isn’t among them. A Magento store moves through CSV exports, a migration app such as Matrixify, or Shopify’s API. We choose the method for each data type and name it in the scope.
They stay behind. Shopify can’t import passwords from another platform, and on its current customer accounts there’s no password to set anyway: customers sign in with a six-digit code sent to their email address, and their imported orders are attached to the same customer record. Customers get an email explaining the change.
Yes, through a migration app or Shopify’s order API. Shopify’s admin has no CSV import for past orders. Orders go in after products and customers, and we switch off staff order notifications first, because Shopify otherwise emails staff about every imported order. How many years of orders to bring is your client’s decision, and it goes in the scope.
No. Shopify fixes the start of every URL: /products/, /collections/, /pages/ and /blogs/. Every Magento URL gets a 301 redirect to its new address, mapped one by one from a crawl of the old store and tested before launch. We don’t promise rankings or traffic; Google’s own guidance says to expect some fluctuation after a move.
None of them runs on Shopify. We list each extension and what it does, then replace it with a Shopify feature, theme code or an app. The quote lists each replacement app with its monthly cost, so your client sees the running costs before agreeing to the move.
Yes. The Shopify store is built as a development store in your Partner account while Magento keeps selling. Just before the switch we import the orders and customers created since the first import, then the gift card balances. The domain moves in your client’s quiet hours, after your sign-off.
Yes. The nine steps on this page are the list we work to: audit, data mapping, store build, imports in Shopify’s order, redirect map, payments and test orders, final import, sign-off and launch, then the checks after launch. Use it to scope a move or to compare quotes.
In Magento a customer group sets which discounts and which tax class a customer gets. On Shopify the nearest tools are customer tags with discounts, or companies and catalogues in its B2B features, which only some plans include. We list each group in the audit, propose where it goes, and name the plan it needs before you quote your client.
Yes, each in its own way. A Magento bundle lets the customer build their own set from options, and Shopify sells bundles only through a bundles app. We count the bundle, grouped, virtual and downloadable products in the audit, and the scope says how each type is rebuilt.
No. We work from email accounts on your domain and never contact your client. The store is built in your Shopify Partner account, we join it as a collaborator with only the permissions the job needs, and the migration sheet and post-launch report carry your logo.
Tell us how big the Magento catalogue is and which extensions it runs. You sign the move off under your agency’s name before the domain changes.
Next, you send a short brief and we reply with a fixed price and a delivery date in writing. You pay nothing until you sign the order.
