Work From Hills: Web design & development

A listing site for remote workers who want to stay in the mountains by the week or the month. Every stay shows the wifi speed that was measured there, and a booking is a request, not a payment.

The Work From Hills homepage, headed Breathe in, live and work, above photos of three mountain towns.

What it solved

Work From Hills lists homes and private rooms in the mountains for people who work remotely. Stays are booked by the week or the month. It’s our own project.

Someone who works from a rental needs to know things a normal listing doesn’t say: how fast the wifi is, whether there is power backup, what the desk is like. So the team stays two days in every home before it goes live, and the site shows what they found.

What we set out to build:

  • Show the measured wifi speed and the test date on every stay.
  • Let people filter stays by state, budget, wifi speed and number of guests.
  • Take a booking as a request, with no payment on the site.
  • Give home owners a simple way to list a property.

What we built

We designed it and built it on Astro, and a guest can get from the home page to a booking request in a few clicks.

  • The stays page, with a filter column on the left and cards of rooms showing wifi speed and monthly price.

    Stays with filters

All the homes and rooms are in one list. Filters cover the state, home or room, monthly budget, wifi speed and number of guests.

  • A listing page for a balcony room, with a photo gallery and a badge showing 91 Mbps wifi.

A listing that shows the tests

Each stay shows the download and upload speed measured there and the date of the test. The photos are taken by the team during their stay.

  • The booking panel on a listing: monthly and weekly prices, a move-in date, guests and a Book now button.

    Booking as a request

The guest picks a move-in date and a length of stay, and sees the price. Nothing is paid on the site. The team checks the dates with the owner first.

  • The List your property page, with the offer on the left and a short form on the right.

    A page for owners

Owners read how listing works, what the two-day check covers and what they keep from a booking. Then they send a short form.

Why Astro

Listing pages are built ahead of time, so they load fast and search engines can read them easily. Supabase holds the properties and the booking requests, and the site is served from Cloudflare.
