The Rare Gem: Webflow development

A dealer in rare gemstones. An online shop for certified alexandrites and padparadscha sapphires, with buying guides, a find-your-stone form and a wholesale application.

The Rare Gem homepage, headed The Most Trusted Source for Rare Gemstones Online, over a photo of cut blue gemstones.

What it solved

The Rare Gem deals in rare gemstones, mostly certified alexandrites and padparadscha sapphires. A single stone can sell for tens of thousands of dollars.

At that price a buyer has to trust the seller first. The site had to show each stone in detail, teach people what makes one rare, and take orders online. The design was supplied, and our team built it in Webflow.

The brief had four parts:

  • Build the supplied design in Webflow, page for page.
  • Sell stones online, with filters for price, carat, shape and certification.
  • Give each stone a page with its lab report, a video and a full description.
  • Let the dealer add stones, guides and blog posts without a developer.

What we built

A shop, a set of buying guides and two enquiry forms, all on one Webflow site that the dealer runs.

  • The certified alexandrites page, with a Filters button above a grid of gemstone photos.

    The shop

Stones are listed by collection. A buyer can filter by price, carat, shape and certification, then sort what is left.

  • A product page for an oval alexandrite, with two photos showing its colour change beside the description and price.

    A page for each stone

Photos of the stone in two kinds of light, its carat weight and price, the lab report and a video. The buyer can add it to the cart from there.

  • The Find Your Stone form, with fields for name and email and tick boxes for carat range and cut.

    Find your stone

Most of the stock is not shown on the site. This form takes the carat range and the cut a buyer wants, and the dealer replies with stones that match.

  • The rarity pyramid page: a striped pyramid with gemstone names listed down its left side.

    Guides that teach

An alexandrite guide, a padparadscha guide, a lab report guide and a rarity pyramid that ranks the rarest gemstones in the world.

Why Webflow

The shop, the guides and the blog all run on Webflow’s own CMS and checkout, so there is one system to look after. The dealer adds a stone by filling in a form, and its page is built from that.
